What's Sleep Got to Do With It?

We all want our kids to be healthy, do well in school and in a word - thrive, right?

There's a new technology in prevention tool that will help you toward that goal and it is focused on sleep.  We know from Dr. Dennis Embry that sleep deprivation puts our kids at risk.  What I appreciate most about the app is that it gives us a tool to use early and often to help monitor how well our kids are doing and catch any problems.  That's good prevention!

Meet SleepChamp.

The app is grounded in evidence-based research from world class researcher Dr. Ron Chervin at the University of Michigan Sleep Disorder Center and helps parents monitor their children's quality of sleep. Dr. Chervin reminds us that ...

"everything you need to be healthy
relates in some way to sleep,"

We know intuitively that sleep matters when it comes to how our kids feel and how well they are able to pay attention and do well.  Research is emerging and new AAP guidelines established to help us understand the consequences of poor sleep habits including links to aggression and hyperactivity disorders. So, as it turns out, its not just sleep but the quality of sleep that matters.

The app provides:
  • a way for parents to evaluate each of their children's sleep quality
  • helpful healthy sleep resources
  • a way to share your concerns with your pediatrician

I'm excited to see technology being used in this way for prevention and the cost of the app is about what we'd pay for a cup of coffee at Starbucks.  It's also easy to follow (and share) this prevention product and the evidence-based research supporting it on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

Lastly, the app is available for both iPhone and Android so give it a go and let's talk about it.

Just exactly what I need right now. Our baby is always crying minutes after waking up, she's not hungry and the diaper is also dry. I suspect that she's not getting enough sleep and this app might give a more specific detail on what to do.
